Nursery Curriculum

At Technotots we specialise in infant and toddler care and understand the unique importance of the first three years. We aim to provide a foundation for children, through play and experiences, which help us to fulfill our aims.

We use the principals of BOTH the Surestart Birth to Three Matters document and the     0 - 3 Supporting our Youngest Children document - We consider both approaches encapsulate the Circle of Care Ethos we have established at Technotots; and regard both approaches to the outcomes for our very youngest children to be key to the aims set by us and consideration of both to lead to a Best Practice scenario.

 

 

To see our children grow and develop through nurturing and loving care – children of this age have basic needs i.e. nutrition, sleep, warmth and cleanliness – we therefore aim to develop:

Relationships

  • Children should be able to form relationships with adults who are positive, responsible and affectionate
  • Experience physical contact to foster their physical and emotional well being
  • Carers should engage children in genuine and interesting conversations continuously throughout their time in the setting
  • Children and staff should enjoy activities and play together
  • Parents should be actively encouraged to participate in the setting
  • Children should be able to recognise familiar settings in the nursery which reflex aspects of home life
  • Children should feel supported in social interactions between other children and adults
  • Families using the setting should feel valued and respected

 

 Responsive Care

  • Children should feel secure and that the adults are affectionate and relaxed
  • Adults should take time to respond with interest to children’s conversations and questions
  • Children should feel part of and involved in a valued routine
  • Children should be actively encourage to make choices during activities and meal times
  • Raise the children’s self esteem through praise and responsibility
  • Develop gross and fine motor skills through play activities
  • Activities should provide small achievable goals to support all children’s development
  • Flexible/unplanned play experiences should be expected and encouraged to support children’s interest
  • Care practises should be tailored to individual children and their individual needs
  • Support the care, learning and development of children of different development stages
  • Plan for individual children as well and groups
  • All parents/carers should be provided with relevant, update information on their child regardless of living situation or relationship with other members of the family
  • Children should feel they have access to reliable and appropriate support throughout their time in the setting

 

Respect

  • Children’s choices should be respected and praised
  • Children should be involved in planning and choices which will effect them and their area in the setting
  • Children should be provided with opportunities to develop independence skills through out the day
  • Promote an understanding of their own and other cultures
  • Allow freedom to explore materials without having a product at the end
  • Show genuine interest in the children and what they have to say 
  • Smooth transition from home to nursery and nursery to school. A Strong Child

A Strong Child

• Who has a realization of his/her own individuality, which includes a growing awareness of self, has their own personal characteristics and has knowledge about what he/she can do.
• Understands that she/he is valued and important, will be able to
contribute to relationships and have had opportunity to explore his/her emotions.
• Is confident in what she/he can do, value and appreciate his/her own abilities and feel self-assured and supported.
• Enjoys being with familiar and trusted others, values individuality and the contributions of others and has a role and identity within the setting.


A Skillful Communicator

By the time the Child is ready for the Foundation Stage Curriculum he/she will:

• Enjoy being with others and have positive relationships with them, and able to make needs known.
• Be a confident and competent language user, able to use language to label, describe, and share.
• Enjoy songs, rhymes and stories, being able to listen and respond appropriately.
• Make playful and serious responses and be able to influence others.
• Have developed a level of understanding, is able to negotiate choices and can be understood by others.

A Competent Learner

• Who enjoys finding out about the environment and other people.
• Will enjoy making patterns, comparing and sorting information through play.
• Has had the opportunity to play imaginatively with materials using all his/her senses and use pretend play to express ideas.
• Has explored and discovered a range of creative mediums (music, movement, art).
• Has had opportunities to respond to the world with marks and symbols and discovered that these marks can carry meaning.

A Healthy Child

• Who is able to make his/her own choices and decisions and discover his/her own likes and dislikes.
• Will have emotional stability, developed healthy independence and know when they need to depend on others for help.
• Be acquiring a range of physical skills and gaining control of the body.
• He/she will enjoy being active, rested and well nourished.
• Be discovering about boundaries, limits and rules, learning when to say ‘no’ and anticipating when others will do so.
•  Know when and how to ask for help.
